Jérémie 2.20

« Israël, dit le Seigneur, il y a longtemps que tu te rebelles contre moi ; tu as rompu avec moi et tu as déclaré : “Je veux être libre”. En effet, sur n’importe quelle colline, sous n’importe quel arbre vert tu t’étales comme une prostituée.
Malgré tous ses avantages, Israël, le peuple élu de Dieu, était devenu comme une vigne sauvage, portant du fruit pernicieux.

Les hommes sont souvent asservis à la puissance de leurs désirs effrénés et leurs convoitises iniques, jusqu'à en devenir parfois, de grossiers « animaux ».

Dans ce texte, l'Éternel avertit Son peuple de ne pas poursuivre ce qui ne lui apporterait que détresse et misère.

Nous ne devons pas négliger la Miséricorde divine, mais croire qu'elle est toujours efficace pour pardonner nos péchés ; nous devons avoir le même sentiment vis-à-vis de la Grâce du Seigneur, croire qu'elle peut toujours « maitriser » nos diverses corruptions, même les plus tenaces !
Tu as dès longtemps brisé ton joug, Rompu tes liens, Et tu as dit : Je ne veux plus être dans la servitude ! Mais sur toute colline élevée Et sous tout arbre vert Tu t'es courbée comme une prostituée.

      1 "They say, 'If a man puts away his wife, and she goes from him, and become another man's, will he return to her again?' Wouldn't that land be greatly polluted? But you have played the prostitute with many lovers; yet return again to me," says Yahweh.
      2 "Lift up your eyes to the bare heights, and see! Where have you not been lain with? You have sat for them by the ways, as an Arabian in the wilderness. You have polluted the land with your prostitution and with your wickedness.
      6 Moreover, Yahweh said to me in the days of Josiah the king, "Have you seen that which backsliding Israel has done? She has gone up on every high mountain and under every green tree, and there has played the prostitute.
      7 I said after she had done all these things, 'She will return to me;' but she didn't return; and her treacherous sister Judah saw it.
      8 I saw, when, for this very cause that backsliding Israel had committed adultery, I had put her away and given her a bill of divorce, yet treacherous Judah, her sister, didn't fear; but she also went and played the prostitute.

      Jérémie 17

      2 while their children remember their altars and their Asherim by the green trees on the high hills.

      8 It shall come to pass in that day, says Yahweh of Armies, that I will break his yoke from off your neck, and will burst your bonds; and strangers shall no more make him their bondservant;

      31 in that you build your vaulted place at the head of every way, and make your lofty place in every street, and have not been as a prostitute, in that you scorn pay.
      41 They shall burn your houses with fire, and execute judgments on you in the sight of many women; and I will cause you to cease from playing the prostitute, and you shall also give no hire any more.

      Ezéchiel 20

      28 For when I had brought them into the land, which I swore to give to them, then they saw every high hill, and every thick tree, and they offered there their sacrifices, and there they presented the provocation of their offering; there also they made their pleasant aroma, and they poured out there their drink offerings.

      Ezéchiel 23

      5 Oholah played the prostitute when she was mine; and she doted on her lovers, on the Assyrians [her] neighbors,
