Le sens de ce verset est que Babel est mûre pour le jugement.

Une aire au temps où on la foule. Il ne s'agit point ici du blé que l'on foule dans l'aire au moment de la récolte. C'est l'aire elle-même qui est foulée, comme le fait l'agriculteur chaque fois que la moisson approche, pour aplanir et durcir le terrain. Ainsi l'Eternel prépare en ce moment la prise et le sac de Babel (la moisson). Comparez Esaïe 21.10 ; Michée 4.12-13.
