World English Bible When they lifted up their eyes from a distance, and didn't recognize him, they raised their voices, and wept; and they each tore his robe, and sprinkled dust on their heads toward the sky.

De loin. Job n'était donc pas dans sa maison, mais en plein air, sous quelque abri.

Ils ne le reconnurent pas : tant la maladie l'avait changé. Il devait s'être écoulé un certain temps avant leur arrivée.

Déchirèrent leur manteau : comme Job lui-même (1.20).

De la poussière. Jeter de la poussière vers le ciel, de manière à ce qu'elle vous retombât sur la tête, c'était reconnaître qu'on était, par une dispensation céleste, abaissé jusque dans la poudre.
