12 à 30 La réfutation directe de ces assertions sera l'objet du discours suivant (chapitre 34). Pour le moment Elihu se contente de poser en principe que nous n'avons pas le droit d'intimer Dieu et de lui imposer l'obligation de nous répondre (versets 42 et 43). Dieu d'ailleurs, qu'on accuse de mutisme, parle et parle de bien des manières (verset 14). Il parle en songe (versets 15 et 16) ; il parle par la douleur (versets 19 à 22), mais toujours pour le salut de l'homme (versets 17 et 18). Et, si l'homme ainsi frappé a le bonheur de trouver sur son chemin un messager de la vérité (verset 23), alors tout finit bien pour lui (versets 24 à 28). Il peut arriver que Dieu doive revenir plusieurs fois à la charge ; mais il en vaut la peine : le but est si grand (versets 29 et 30).

Dieu est plus grand que l'homme. Il est au-dessus des accusations humaines et ne s'abaisse pas à se justifier à tout propos.
