21 à 23 Destruction des Anakim.

Dans sa récapitulation, le narrateur donne une place particulière au fait, déjà mentionné 10.36 et suivants, de la défaite de ces peuples par Josué à la suite de la bataille de Gabaon. Leur destruction devait être mentionnée à part, car la description de leur taille extraordinaire avait particulièrement effrayé le peuple lors du retour des espions, et il importait qu'Israël pût constater que la promesse de l'Eternel à Moïse avait reçu son entier accomplissement.
