Et Moïse dit. Il se hâte de prévenir le murmure qui allait s'élever du cœur et des lèvres d'Aaron, de peur qu'un nouveau péché et un nouveau châtiment ne viennent troubler ce jour.

Je serai sanctifié. Quand Dieu s'est choisi des serviteurs particuliers, sa sainteté doit infailliblement être manifestée en eux, soit par leurs actes, s'ils le servent fidèlement, soit par un châtiment éclatant, s'ils déshonorent la charge dont ils ont été revêtus.

Ceux qui s'approchent de moi : les sacrificateurs, à qui seul ce droit a été donné afin qu'ils servent d'intermédiaires entre le peuple et Dieu. La parole rappelée en ces mots : C'est ce dont l'Eternel a parlé, est sans doute Exode 19.22.

Aaron, se tut. Il comprend que le moindre mot de regret serait déplacé en face d'un fait dans lequel la main de Dieu s'est si évidemment montrée. (Je n'ai point ouvert la bouche, parce que c'est toi qui l'as fait. Psaumes 39.9). Ce silence est d'autant plus frappant que chez les orientaux les manifestations de la douleur à l'occasion d'un deuil sont plus bruyantes.

Misaël et Eltsaphan, fils d'Uzziel. Uzziel était le frère cadet d'Amram, père d'Aaron, et ses deux fils étaient sans doute les plus jeunes d'entre les cousins germains de celui-ci ; c'est comme tels qu'ils sont appelés à ensevelir les corps (verset 5). Comparez Actes 5.6,10, où les jeunes gens de l'Eglise sont chargés d'un office semblable. Comme Lévites, ils avaient le droit d'entrer dans le parvis.

Quand nous sommes dans l'affliction, quelle qu'en soit son intensité, nos sentiments doivent être en accord avec l'enseignement de la Parole de Dieu. Qu'est-ce que Dieu veut nous dire dans ce texte ? Malgré le coup terrible que reçut Aaron, avec la perte de ses deux fils, malgré son angoisse et sa consternation, il s'est soumis silencieusement à la justice de la correction divine. Quand Dieu nous corrige, après que nous ayons péché, nous devons accepter cette punition en nous disant : « tout cela vient du Seigneur, qu'Il accomplisse ce que bon Lui semble ».

Quand nous adorons Dieu, nous nous approchons de Lui, tels des « sacrificateurs spirituels » : cela doit nous conduire à garder tout le sérieux possible dans tous nos actes de dévotion. Quand nous travaillons pour le Seigneur, nous sommes près de Lui et nous devons bien considérer qu'Il est le Dieu saint et qu'Il se vengera de tous ceux qui profaneront la sainteté de Son Nom.
