11 à 21 La loi du sacrifice d'actions de grâces.

Ce morceau et les deux suivants forment un supplément du chapitre 3. Le premier morceau renferme dix articles, divisés en deux groupes de cinq.

Qu'on, offrira à l'Eternel. Ces derniers mots distinguent les sacrifices proprement dits des immolations ordinaires, qui, sans être des actes de culte, sont suivies, comme ceux-ci, de repas d'amitié. En tenant compte du mobile qui inspire ces sacrifices, le législateur les divise en trois classes : ceux qui sont un hommage de reconnaissance (versets 12 à 15) ; ceux qui sont l'accomplissement d'un vœu ; enfin ceux qui proviennent d'un mouvement complètement spontané. Ces deux dernières classes sont soumises à une seule et même loi (versets 16 à 20).

Comme dans le sacrifice d'actions de grâce, dans un esprit de miséricorde, Dieu laissa plutôt au peuple une certaine liberté dans la pratique des sacrifices, au vu de la conviction de son péché ; en effet, Dieu acceptait davantage ces offrandes faites librement, en toute sincérité, plutôt que d'autres, devant répondre, par obligation au rituel de l'expiation : l'Éternel montrait ainsi le fait d'une réelle Propitiation. La principale raison d'interdiction de consommer du sang, dès les temps les plus reculés, venait du fait qu'il fallait respecter celui qui allait être versé plus tard par notre Seigneur, pour notre expiation. Ce précepte figuratif a pris fin lors de la mort de Christ, date à laquelle les sacrifices ont cessé. Cette ordonnance relative au sang, n'a donc plus raison d'être aujourd'hui pour les croyants.
