16 à 20 Second et troisième cas.

Le second est celui d'un sacrifice auquel on s'est engagé par un vœu, si une prière venait à être exaucée (1Samuel 1.11 ; Jonas 1.16 ; Job 22.27).

Le troisième n'est motivé ni par un bienfait spécial, ni par un vœu. C'est le simple témoignage de l'amour dont le cœur de l'Israélite est rempli pour son Bienfaiteur de tous les jours.

Dans ces deux espèces de sacrifices, la chair de la victime pouvait encore être mangée le lendemain. Pourquoi cette différence entre le premier cas et les deux autres, qui est confirmée 19.5-8 ? Peut-être pour donner au premier genre de sacrifices d'actions de grâces, ainsi assimilés au sacrifice de la Pâque, un caractère plus solennel.

22.23 met entre les victimes du sacrifice votif et du sacrifice volontaire cette légère différence que dans le dernier il n'était pas nécessaire que l'animal fût sans défaut.
