La nourriture, même quand elle est prise avec des mains qui n'ont pas été purifiées par des ablutions, (verset 2) ne peut souiller moralement (grec rendre commun, profane, par opposition à la pureté légale) ; mais bien ce qui, venant du cœur, sort de la bouche, en paroles, etc. (versets 17-20)

- Dans cette déclaration, Jésus a en vue la tradition des Juifs (v. 3), et non encore les prescriptions de la loi relatives aux aliments purs ou impurs, mais il est certain que ces dernières elles-mêmes sont atteintes par le principe nouveau et spirituel que le Seigneur pose ici..
