λέγω δὲ ὑμῖν, οὐ μὴ πίω ἀπ’ ἄρτι ἐκ τούτου τοῦ γενήματος τῆς ἀμπέλου ἕως τῆς ἡμέρας ἐκείνης ὅταν αὐτὸ πίνω μεθ’ ὑμῶν καινὸν ἐν τῇ βασιλείᾳ τοῦ πατρός μου.

La tristesse de la séparation s'exprime dans ces paroles, qui renferment en même temps une consolante promesse.

Désormais il ne célébrera plus avec eux ni la Pâque, ni la cène, au moyen de ce produit de la vigne. Mais il élève leurs pensées vers les temps de la perfection, où, dans le royaume de son Père, il fera communion avec eux d'une manière plus intime encore.

Alors "toutes choses auront été faites nouvelles" et les éternelles réalités que nous présente la cène, le pardon, l'union avec Christ, l'amour, la vie, auront atteint la perfection.

C'est là ce qu'indique le mot : nouveau qui caractérise cette promesse. Ainsi la cène, célébrée sur la terre, est un gage, un avant-goût de celle que l'Eglise glorifiée célébrera dans les cieux avec son divin chef.
