On chantait, après la célébration de la Pâque, les Psaumes 115 à Psaumes 118, que les Juifs appelaient le grand hallel (louange). Ce chant était une sorte de récitatif, tel qu'on l'entend encore dans quelques synagogues, et auquel se prêtent admirablement les psaumes hébreux.

C'est-à-dire au pied de cette montagne, dans la vallée de Cédron, où se trouvait le jardin de Gethsémané.
