Le reste de la maison de Juda : c'est-à-dire ceux des Juifs qui seront épargnés durant la calamité imminente et qui reviendront de l'exil.

L'Eternel les visitera. Cette expression, si souvent employée dans le sens de punir, l'est ici dans l'acception favorable : l'Eternel les traitera avec miséricorde (comparez Luc 1.68).

Il les rétablira : c'est la promesse constante des prophètes, dès Moïse (Deutéronome 30.3-4 ; Jérémie 29.14).

Ces menaces contre les Philistins se sont accomplies en une certaine mesure lors de la conquête de leur pays par Pharaon Néco, Nébucadnetsar, Alexandre-le-Grand, etc. Quant à la prophétie dans son ensemble et pour ce qui concerne en particulier l'occupation de la Philistie par le reste de Juda (comparez Ezéchiel 47.20 ; Abdias 1.19), la réalisation n'en a pas encore eu lieu, en tous cas pas complètement ; ces choses s'accompliront sans doute dans l'avenir, soit matériellement, lors du retour effectif des Juifs en Palestine, soit spirituellement par la disparition des Philistins comme nation païenne et par leur conversion et leur incorporation dans le peuple de Dieu (Psaumes 87.4 ; Zacharie 2.6).
