2 Corinthiens 12.1

Chapitre 12.

1 à 10 Gloire du ciel et écharde en la chair.

"Me glorifier est nécessaire (à cause de vous)...bien que cela ne me convienne pas ; j'en viendrai en effet..." Encore une confirmation de ce qui a été dit à ce sujet. (2Corinthiens 11.1, note ; 2Corinthiens 11.16, note.) Aussi l'apôtre ne veut-il se glorifier que dans ses infirmités. (verset 5)

Toutefois, si des hommes aussi peu spirituels que les faux apôtres et les âmes qu'ils pouvaient avoir séduites, n'ont pas su reconnaître dans ce qui précède la vie d'un vrai serviteur de Jésus-Christ, s'ils exigent d'autres preuves, des révélations extraordinaires, des signes, des miracles, tout cela abonde encore dans la vie de Paul, (versets 2-4,12) et il le montre.

- La leçon du texte reçu "certainement il ne me convient pas de me glorifier" a contre elle les meilleures autorités.

Visions et révélations se distinguent peut-être les unes des autres en ce que les premières ont lieu dans l'esprit de l'homme par des images, (comme Actes 10.9 et suivants) tandis que les dernières sont des communications plus explicites par la parole. (Ainsi Actes 9.1 et suivants ; Actes 27.23 et suivants) Les deux sortes de manifestations se trouvent réunies dans Actes 18.9,10.

Les révélations de l'apôtre Paul. (2 Corinthiens 12:1-6)
Ce qui a contribué à son avantage spirituel. (2 Corinthiens 12:7-10)
Les qualités d'un apôtre existaient vraiment en lui. Son but : faire une visite aux Corinthiens ; il exprime toutefois sa crainte de devoir être sévère avec quelques-uns. (2 Corinthiens 12:11-21)

Il ne peut pas y avoir de doute : l'apôtre parle bien de lui-même dans ce texte. Soit les éléments célestes lui ont été présentés ici bas, alors qu’il était en extase, comme au temps des prophètes autrefois, soit son âme a été séparée du corps, pour un temps, pour être élevée dans le ciel ; il se peut même qu'il soit monté, corps et âme, dans le paradis : en fait, il ne savait pas lui-même ce qui s’était passé vraiment.

Nous ne sommes pas capables, (ou il ne nous est peut-être pas permis de le savoir), de connaître les détails de cet endroit, rempli de la gloire divine. Paul n'a pas tenté de nous décrire ce qu'il a entendu, mais il a placé en avant la doctrine de Christ. C'est sur ce Dernier, ce Fondement, que l'Église est construite, et c'est sur Lui que nous devons bâtir notre foi et notre espérance.

Tandis que ce texte nous invite à affermir notre attente de la gloire céleste qui nous sera révélée, nous devons nous satisfaire des méthodes habituelles d'érudition de la Vérité divine.

      29 Who is weak, and I am not weak? Who is caused to stumble, and I don't burn with indignation?
      30 If I must boast, I will boast of the things that concern my weakness.

      2 Corinthiens 12

      1 It is doubtless not profitable for me to boast. For I will come to visions and revelations of the Lord.
      7 By reason of the exceeding greatness of the revelations, that I should not be exalted excessively, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, a messenger of Satan to torment me, that I should not be exalted excessively.
