Et pourtant, il n’a cessé de leur donner des preuves de son existence et des témoignages de ce qu’il est. En effet, il vous a manifesté sa bonté par d’innombrables bienfaits : c’est lui qui vous envoie, du haut du ciel, les pluies qui fécondent la terre, lui qui régit les saisons et vous accorde des fruits abondants. Oui, c’est lui qui pourvoit à votre subsistance et remplit vos cœurs de joie.

Grec : en remplissant vos cœurs de nourriture et de joie.

L'apôtre exprime en ces termes le sentiment de bien-être la joie de vivre, dont les bienfaits de Dieu dans la nature remplissent le cœur de l'homme.

Aussi le mot de joie, ici, n'est pas celui qui, dans l'Ecriture, exprime la joie chrétienne.

Paul montre à ses auditeurs, dans ces bienfaits de Dieu, un témoignage qu'il se rend à lui-même ; il emploie, en grec, trois participes qui, comme le remarque Meyer, sont subordonnés, le second au premier et le troisième au second : Dieu fait du bien en envoyant les pluies, et par cet envoi il remplit les cœurs de joie. Ainsi, quoiqu'il ait jusqu'ici laissé les peuples païens marcher dans leurs voies sans révélation positive de sa part, ils auraient pu et dû le connaître et l'adorer. (Actes 17.27 ; Romains 1.19-21)
