I fell down before his feet to worship him. He said to me, "Look! Don't do it! I am a fellow bondservant with you and with your brothers who hold the testimony of Jesus. Worship God, for the testimony of Jesus is the Spirit of Prophecy."

On a dit que l'émotion éprouvée par le voyant devant la solennelle déclaration de l'ange, et à la pensée que toute la vision de l'avenir est arrivée à son terme glorieux, le porte à cet acte d'adoration.

Mais n'est il pas plus naturel de supposer qu'il prend l'ange qui lui parle pour le Seigneur Jésus lui-même ? L'autorité avec laquelle cet ange affirmait que les paroles qu'il venait de prononcer étaient "les véritables paroles de Dieu," pouvait faire illusion à Jean, en lui rappelant des affirmations analogues du Christ ; (Jean 3.34) et la parole même qu'il devait écrire résumait l'enseignement que Jésus avait donné dans la parabole des noces. (Matthieu 22.1 et suivants)

Jésus n'eût point repoussé un tel hommage ; (Apocalypse 1.17 ; 5.8-14) mais l'ange reprend vivement le prophète, en lui déclarant qu'il est son compagnon de service et celui de ses frères, serviteur comme eux (Hébreux 1.14 ; 2.16) du Dieu seul adorable. (Voir des défenses semblables, Apocalypse 22.8,9 ; Actes 10.25,26 ; 14.11-15) Ces frères du voyant sont spécialement les prophètes de la nouvelle Alliance. (Apocalypse 22.9)

Avoir le témoignage de Jésus, c'est, d'après les paroles qui suivent, avoir reçu le témoignage que Jésus se rend à lui-même dans l'esprit de ceux qui croient en lui. (Comparer Apocalypse 1.2)

Cette remarque, qu'elle fasse encore partie du discours de l'ange ou qu'elle soit une réflexion ajoutes par Jean, confirme la déclaration de l'ange qu'il est le compagnon du voyant et des prophètes.

Le témoignage de Jésus est l'esprit même de la prophétie. Tous les organes de cet esprit, tous ceux qui ont le témoignage de Jésus, sont égaux entre eux.
