Le second acte de l'ange est de remplir du feu de l'autel, c'est-à-dire des braises prises sur l'autel, l'encensoir qu'il a en mains, (verset 3) et de jeter ces charbons ardents sur la terre. (Un acte symbolique semblable est décrit Ezéchiel 10.2)

Cet acte a pour effet de déchaîner les jugements de Dieu qui viennent répondre aux cris des martyrs. (Apocalypse 6.9-11) Aux phénomènes naturels déjà énumérés dans Apocalypse 1.5 est ajouté un tremblement de terre, mentionné dans Apocalypse 6.12.
