19 à 23 L'exécution.

Fut rempli de fureur. Le roi n'avait probablement jamais rencontré une résistance aussi formelle à ses volontés ; aussi veut-il que la punition soit éclatante.

Sept fois. Ce chiffre représente ici, comme souvent, la mesure complète (Genèse 4.21 ; Lévitique 26.18, etc.).

La chaleur de la fournaise de Nebucadnetsar était si intense qu'elle était capable de détruire n'importe qui en quelques minutes ; de son côté, le feu de l'enfer tourmente mais ne tue pas.

Ceux qui auront adoré la bête et son image, n'auront aucun repos, aucune pause, aucun moment exempt de douleur, Apocalypse 14:10,11.

Nous avons maintenant l'accomplissement à la lettre de cette grande promesse, Esa 43:2 : « si tu marches dans le feu, tu ne brûleras pas ». Laissant à Dieu, qui les a préservés du feu, le soin de les en sortir, ils ont marché de long en large, au milieu de la fournaise, soutenus et encouragés par la présence du Fils de Dieu.

Ceux qui souffrent à cause de Christ, bénéficient de Sa présence dans leurs douleurs, même dans la « fournaise ardente » de l'épreuve, et dans la vallée de l'ombre de la mort.

Nebucadnetsar les a considérés comme étant les serviteurs du Dieu le plus puissant ; Dieu a été capable de les délivrer de la main du roi. C'est un Dieu qui est un feu dévorant, Heb 12:29.

Dans l'éternité, nous pourrons voir les croyants, sauvés, alors qu'ils étaient autrefois persécutés par la méchanceté de leurs ennemis ; nous verrons aussi ces derniers, exposés à la colère de Dieu et tourmentés par un feu perpétuel.
