Ce verset reprend la règle établie au verset 12 en l'appliquant même au cas où le meurtrier voudrait faire usage du moyen de salut institué au verset 13.

Mon autel. Les lieux saints étaient des asiles dans toute l'antiquité. Les criminels fuyaient à l'autel et en saisissaient les cornes pour être à l'abri de la punition. Car c'était sur les cornes de l'autel que se versait le sang destiné à opérer l'expiation (Lévitique 4.7) ; comparez l'histoire d'Adonija et de Joab, 1Rois 1.50 ; 2.29. Chez les Grecs aussi, l'autel servait d'asile.
