15 à 30 La charpente du Tabernacle

Les tentures qui ont été décrites devaient avoir un point d'appui, comme la toile d'une tente. Ce point d'appui était formé par un rectangle de quarante-huit planches, placées debout, vingt au côté nord, vingt au côté sud, six sur le derrière, à l'ouest, avec deux pour former les coins.

Les bases en argent devaient peser une cinquantaine de kilos ; elles étaient alignées en rangées sur le sol. Ces bases étaient reliées entre elles par de solides planches, en bois d'acacia ; ces planches, recouvertes d'or, étaient assemblées par tenons et mortaises. Les murs latéraux et la façade Ouest, étaient ainsi constitués, selon ce principe. De plus, les murs étaient tenus par des barres passées au travers d'anneaux d'or. Des tapis recouvraient l'ensemble. Quoique démontable, le tabernacle était relativement solide ; les matériaux qui le constituaient étaient tous très onéreux.

L'église est pour ainsi dire, une image de cette construction : ses fondations reposent sur les apôtres et les prophètes, Jésus en est la Pierre angulaire, Eph 2:20,21.

      15 "You shall make the boards for the tabernacle of acacia wood, standing up.
      18 You shall make the boards for the tabernacle, twenty boards for the south side southward.

      24 They shall be double beneath, and in the same way they shall be whole to its top to one ring: thus shall it be for them both; they shall be for the two corners.

      30 There were eight boards, and their sockets of silver, sixteen sockets; under every board two sockets.
      31 He made bars of acacia wood; five for the boards of the one side of the tabernacle,
      32 and five bars for the boards of the other side of the tabernacle, and five bars for the boards of the tabernacle for the hinder part westward.
      33 He made the middle bar to pass through in the midst of the boards from the one end to the other.
