A trois journées de marche. Il y a 220 kilomètres, c'est-à-dire au moins six jours de marche, de Suez au Sinaï. Ici, Dieu ne demande à Pharaon que de laisser aller le peuple jusqu'à l'entrée du désert pour y célébrer son culte hors d'un pays idolâtre et de manière à ne pas offenser les Egyptiens (8.23). Pharaon pouvait sans risque accorder cette demande. Mais Dieu sait que Pharaon refusera et que ce refus sera le moyen dont il se servira pour délivrer entièrement Israël.
