Pas si proche ! Bâtissons, cette traduction nous paraît la seule qui donne à cette parole un sens convenable. Les meneurs se moquaient des menaces de destruction prochaine faites par Jérémie et Ezéchiel (comparez 12.21-28), et prétendaient que c'était justement le temps favorable pour bâtir à Jérusalem. Si tel est le sens de leur parole, l'image qui suit doit signifier que comme la viande est bien gardée dans le pot qui la renferme, ainsi les habitants de Jérusalem seront à l'abri de tout mal dans cette capitale ; comparez 24.11 et suivants, note. On interprète souvent cette parole dans un sens d'amer et sceptique découragement : Si notre ville périt, eh bien ! nous périrons au moins avec elle. Mais comparez 12.21 et suivants, passage qui ne paraît pas permettre ce sens.
