Ezéchiel 18.21

Et le méchant, s'il se détourne de tous ses péchés qu'il a commis, et qu'il garde tous mes statuts, et qu'il pratique le jugement et la justice, certainement il vivra ; il ne mourra pas.

21 à 29 Restaient les cas où le changement moral a lieu non dans la vie de la race, d'une génération à l'autre, mais dans le même individu, à différents moments de son existence. Comment la justice divine agira-t-elle envers cet homme-là ? Ici encore Ezéchiel avait devant les yeux des exemples très frappants, celui de la punition d'Ezéchias pour une faute commise à la fin de sa vie, et du pardon accordé à Manassé lorsqu'il fut rentré en lui-même. Comparez Esaïe 39.1-8 et 2Chroniques 33.12-13.

L'homme mauvais pourrait être sauvé, s'il se détournait du mal qu’il commet. Le véritable repentant est un croyant authentique. Aucune de ses anciennes transgressions ne lui sera reprochée, par la droiture qu'il observe, cette dernière étant le fruit de la foi et l'effet de sa conversion : certainement, il vivra !

La question n'est pas de savoir si les véritables justes ne deviendront jamais des apostats. Il est certain que ceux qui, pendant un certain temps, furent vraisemblablement « justes », pourront « cadrer » leur vie selon les versets Ezéchiel 18:26,27, qui mentionnent la plénitude de la Miséricorde divine : quand le péché est pardonné par Dieu, il est « rejeté au dehors », il est complètement oublié.

Les âmes vivront par leur droiture accomplie ; non pas par leur propre droiture, comme si cette dernière pouvait leur procurer le pardon de leurs péchés, mais par celle qui provient des bénédictions de Christ, le Médiateur.

Quel encouragement de voir un pécheur se repentir, et placer son espérance dans le pardon et la vie, selon la promesse divine !

Le verset Ezéchiel 18:28 décrit le début et la progression du repentir. Les véritables croyants restent vigilants, face au mal, ils prient et continuent sur cet axe de piété : ils sont sauvés !

Dans tous les conflits que nous pouvons avoir avec Dieu, Il est est La Droiture, ayant toujours raison, alors que nous avons toujours tort !
