Le grand crocodile. Cet animal monstrueux, qui habitait le Nil, est le symbole ordinaire de la puissance égyptienne ; comparez Esaïe 27.1 ; 51.9 (le Monstre) et Job 41.25.

Ses fleuves : la multitude de canaux qui, partant du Nil, traversent et arrosent l'Egypte.

Mon fleuve est à moi. L'Egypte vit du Nil, et le Nil semble être là pour l'Egypte qui sans lui serait un désert. Le roi d'Egypte l'appelle pour cette raison son fleuve. Il ajoute : c'est moi qui me le suis fait, c'est-à-dire qui l'a fait ce qu'il est, le bienfaiteur du peuple égyptien. C'était aux travaux ordonnés et entretenus par les rois qu'était dû le système d'irrigation admirable auquel l'Egypte devait sa prospérité.
