Le prince du monde (Jean 12.31, note) vient, s'approche.

Jésus le voit venir dans les misérables instruments dont il va se servir pour accomplir son œuvre de ténèbres. (Jean 13.2,27) Mais il ajoute aussitôt : Tout prince du monde qu'il est, il n'a rien en moi, ni droit, ni pouvoir.

La mort même à laquelle Jésus va se soumettre sera parfaitement libre et volontaire ; (Jean 10.18) ce sera le sacrifice de son dévouement et de son amour. Pour parler ainsi, il fallait que Jésus eût la conscience de sa parfaite sainteté.
