World English Bible You didn't choose me, but I chose you, and appointed you, that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain; that whatever you will ask of the Father in my name, he may give it to you.

Bien que Jésus ait élevé ses disciples jusqu'à ce rapport intime d'amour avec lui, ils ne doivent pas oublier qu'ici toute l'initiative est venue de lui. C'est lui qui les a choisis pour leur apostolat. (Luc 6.13 ; Jean 6.70 ; 13.18)

Le verbe grec est composé d'une particule qui signifie "choisir du milieu de." Il les a choisis du milieu du monde, (verset 19) où ils seraient restés sans la libre grâce du Sauveur.

C'est lui encore qui les a établis dans leur apostolat, et qui les a qualifiés, par ses dons, pour cette grande et sainte vocation.

Tout cela, ajoute Jésus, je l'ai fait, afin que vous alliez (Matthieu 28.19) librement, joyeusement, à votre œuvre et que vous puissiez porter du fruit, un fruit qui sera permanent pour la vie éternelle.

De ces mots : Je vous ai choisis et établis, dépend encore le second afin que ; ils sont, de ce fait, dans une position qui les assure que tout ce qu'ils demanderont au Père au nom du Sauveur, il le leur donnera. (Jean 14.13 ; 16.23)
