World English Bible He shall sprinkle on him who is to be cleansed from the leprosy seven times, and shall pronounce him clean, and shall let the living bird go into the open field.

La bible annotée Commentaire de Matthew Henry

Sept fois : voir 4.6 ; 2Rois 5.10-14 ; le nombre 7 rappelle qu'il s'agit d'une œuvre divine. Cette aspersion figure la pleine communication de la vie à cet être souillé et voué à la mort ; le sang mêlé à l'eau vive dans lequel le goupillon est trempé est le symbole du pardon et de la purification physique et morale ; dans le goupillon lui-même l'hysope représente également la purification ; le cèdre, l'incorruptibilité et la durée, et le cramoisi, l'éclat de la santé recouvrée. L'oiseau immolé figure le malade sur lequel la mort avait déjà imprimé son sceau et le sort au-devant duquel il marchait. L'oiseau vivant lâché dans la campagne représente ce même homme vivifié et rendu à la liberté, pouvant rentrer joyeusement dans le camp et dans la société de ses frères, après ce long temps d'isolement. Toute cette cérémonie est le tableau dramatique de la victoire de la vie sur la mort. Nous retrouverons au verset 49 la même cérémonie (oiseau relâché) à propos de la maison à purifier.
