Il n'est pas dit par qui l'économe fut accusé d'infidélité. Son maître sait tout, il le fait venir, lui demande (grec) le compte de son administration, et lui annonce sa destitution.

Comme, pour produire ce compte, il faut à l'économe un certain temps, il va en profiter sans perdre un instant, pour se tirer d'embarras.
