Sur ce troisième terrain, il y a progrès encore. (Comparer verset 7, note.)

La parole entendue n'est ni enlevée ni reniée, comme dans les deux cas qui précèdent elle persiste ; mais d'autres forces, figurées par les épines, agissent avec elle et lui disputent le cœur de l'homme. Ces forces sont, d'une part, les soucis du siècle, c'est-à-dire de ce monde qui en est rempli, soit pour le pauvre, soit pour le riche ; d'autre part, la séduction qu'exerce la richesse, ici personnifiée, et qui trompe ses dupes en leur promettant le bonheur. (Comparer Matthieu 6.19 ; 1Timothée 6.9)

La parole est ainsi étouffée au dedans du cœur et ne peut produire ses fruits de régénération et de vie.

Mais ce n'est qu'au jour de la moisson qu'apparaîtra cette triste stérilité. Jusque-là, que d'illusions possibles !
