Matthieu 4.18

Un jour qu’il marchait au bord du lac de Galilée, il vit deux frères : *Simon (qu’on appelle aussi Pierre), et André, son frère, qui lançaient un filet dans le lac, car ils étaient pêcheurs.

Mer de Galilée, ou de Tibériade, ou lac de Génézareth, formée par le Jourdain qui la traverse du nord au sud, ayant vingt kilomètres dans sa longueur, douze dans sa plus grande largeur, de forme ovale, entourée de montagnes qui en font le centre d'un pittoresque paysage. Les eaux du lac sont douces, claires, fraîches, abondantes en poissons, souvent violemment agitées par les vents. A tous les avantages dont l'a embelli la nature, le lac de Génézareth joint les immortels et religieux souvenirs qu'a laissés sur ses bords la présence du Sauveur, qui y passa la plus grande partie de son ministère. Simon était le nom du disciple. Il avait reçu le surnom de Pierre lors de sa première rencontre avec Jésus sur les bords du Jourdain. Plus tard ce nom lui fut confirmé dans une circonstance solennelle. (Matthieu 16.18 ; comparez Jean 1.43 note.) André, son frère, fut avec Jean le premier disciple de Jean-Baptiste qui s'attacha à Jésus. Jean 1.35-41 Ces deux frères étaient de Bethsaïda. Jean 1.45. Ils se livraient à leurs travaux de pêcheurs au moment où Jésus les appelle à le suivre.

"Si l'Evangile était d'une telle nature qu'il pût être propagé et maintenu par des potentats, Dieu ne l'aurait pas confié à des pêcheurs." Luther.

Lorsque Christ a commencé à prêcher, Il rassembla d’abord des disciples qui, au début, ne devaient être que des auditeurs, mais ensuite ils allaient être les prédicateurs de Sa doctrine, tout en étant les témoins de Ses miracles, attestant tout cela.

Au début de son ministère, Jésus ne se rendit pas à la cour d'Hérode, ni à Jérusalem, parmi les principaux sacrificateurs et les anciens, mais il se dirigea vers la mer de Galilée, parmi les pêcheurs. La même puissance, qui a appelé Pierre et André, aurait pu, de la même façon agir sur Anne et Caïphe, car pour Dieu rien n'est impossible !

Christ a choisi les choses folles du monde pour confondre les sages. La diligence à pratiquer une honnête vocation, plait à Christ, cela n’est pas une entrave à une vie sainte. Les personnes oisives sont plus exposées aux tentations de Satan qu'aux appels de Dieu. Quelle joie et quelle satisfaction, de voir des enfants, prendre soin de leurs parents âgés, ils sont vraiment conscients de leurs devoirs !

Lorsque Christ s’approche de nous, il est bon qu’il nous trouve en pleine occupation. Suis-je en Christ ? C’est une question personnelle qu'il nous faut nous poser ; est-ce j’accomplis ma vocation ?

Ces hommes, choisis par le Seigneur, Le suivaient comme de simples disciples, Jean 1:37 ; à présent, ils devaient confirmer ce pourquoi ils avaient été appelés.

Ceux qui veulent suivre Christ correctement, doivent, à Son ordre, laisser toutes choses pour Le suivre, étant prêts à y renoncer.

Cet exemple de la Puissance du Seigneur Jésus nous encourage à dépendre de Sa Grâce. Il parle, et l'ordre est exécuté !
