La nuditĂ© de l'enfant qui vient de naĂźtre, est pour l'adulte la suprĂȘme honte ; appliquĂ©e au pays, elle est le symbole de la dĂ©vastation.

Les deux notions alternent ; tantÎt c'est l'idée du pays qui apparaßt : il sera réduit en désert ; tantÎt celle de la femme : dénuée de tout, elle mourra de soif. Cette double maniÚre de s'exprimer se retrouve dans tout le reste du chapitre.
