6 à 12 Le péché d'Israël dès l'origine, en Egypte.

Nous et nos pères, littéralement : avec nos pères. Les péchés des fils ne forment avec ceux des pères qu'une seule et même somme de péchés, qui doivent être confessés.

Ici commence la confession du péché ; car nous devons reconnaître que le Seigneur a tout accompli à la perfection alors que nous, nous n'avons pratiqué que l'iniquité. Quel encouragement de savoir qu'une fois pardonnés, nous ne sommes pas pour autant abandonnés ! Le peuple de Dieu, lorsqu'il est affligé, reconnaît sa culpabilité. Dieu est toujours prudent, dans le sens qu'Il sait que les siens oublient vite Ses faveurs. S'Il ne nous sauvait pas dans le but de Le servir et Le louer, nous irions tous à la perdition.
