L'apôtre mentionne, comme exemple, l'un des dons de l'Esprit que l'on pouvait éteindre, le don de prophétie, (Romains 12.6 ; 1Corinthiens 12.10) l'un des plus excellents, (1Corinthiens 14.5) par lequel Dieu communiquait à l'Église de nouvelles lumières, des révélations. (Il ne s'agit pas des prophéties écrites de l'Ecriture, que nul n'était tenté de mépriser.)

Il pouvait arriver que l'on traitât ce don avec trop peu d'estime, soit par un manque d'intelligence, soit parce que celui qui présidait les assemblées avait un soin exagéré de l'ordre, soit parce qu'il s'était élevé de faux prophètes qui discréditaient ce don chez d'autres. (2Thessaloniciens 2.2 ; 1Jean 4.1)

      9 From among the peoples, tribes, languages, and nations people will look at their dead bodies for three and a half days, and will not allow their dead bodies to be laid in a tomb.
      10 Those who dwell on the earth rejoice over them, and they will be glad. They will give gifts to one another, because these two prophets tormented those who dwell on the earth.
      11 After the three and a half days, the breath of life from God entered into them, and they stood on their feet. Great fear fell on those who saw them.
