Lorsqu'un assez grand nombre de jours furent accomplis, cette expression peut désigner un temps prolongé ; (Actes 18.18) elle ne peut en aucun cas être équivalente aux quelques jours de verset 19.

Ainsi même le récit de Luc suppose un second séjour de Paul à Damas. (verset 20, note.)

- Ici déjà l'apôtre, dès les premiers pas dans sa carrière, éprouve la violente opposition des Juifs, dont il aura tant à souffrir jusqu'à la fin.

Quand nous empruntons le chemin que Dieu nous a tracé, nous devons nous attendre à affronter des épreuves ; mais le Seigneur sait délivrer l'homme pieux, et malgré la tentation, Il donne aussi le moyen d’échapper aux attaques de « l’ennemi ».

Bien que la conversion de Saul ait été, et soit encore, une preuve de la véracité du Christianisme, cela ne pouvait pas cependant, corriger immédiatement son inimitié envers la Vérité ; en fait, il n’y a que cette Puissance qui régénère le cœur, qui puisse produire la véritable foi. Les croyants sont prompts à soupçonner ceux envers qui ils ont des préjugés. Le monde est rempli de supercherie et il est essentiel de rester prudent ; sachons cependant exercer la charité, 1Corinthiens 13:5.

Le Seigneur purifiera le caractère du véritable croyant ; Il l’intègrera à Son « troupeau », en lui donnant souvent maintes occasions de porter témoignage à Sa Vérité, devant ceux qui, jadis, étaient témoins de l’inimitié de cet homme à Son égard.

Christ apparut alors à Saul, lui ordonnant de partir rapidement de Jérusalem : l’apôtre devait être envoyé vers les « Gentils » ; voir : \\#22:21\\. Les serviteurs de Christ ne peuvent pas être tués avant d'avoir terminé leur témoignage. Néanmoins, les persécutions demeurent... Les serviteurs de l'Évangile ont toujours marché dans l’intégrité, profitant largement du réconfort du Saint-Esprit, dans l'espérance et la paix qu’accorde le Seigneur ; des âmes furent ainsi gagnées !

Les disciples étaient stimulés par le Saint-Esprit, non seulement lors de l’épreuve et de la détresse, mais aussi aux jours du repos et de la prospérité.

Ceux qui sont appelés à marcher dans la joie spirituelle, comme les disciples dans ce texte, doivent néanmoins rester très circonspects ...
