Ces dernières paroles (versets 15-18) expriment d'une manière si formelle, si manifeste le jugement final du monde et la récompense éternelle du peuple de Dieu, qu'il est inutile de réfuter les autres interprétations qu'on a pu en donner. Seulement, ce dernier chant de triomphe est anticipé, les combats qui précéderont le grand jour vont être racontés dans les chapitres suivants (Apocalypse 12 à Apocalypse 19) et ce n'est qu'à Apocalypse 20.11 et suivants que nous trouverons la description du jugement lui-même.

- Il y a dans les premiers mots de verset 18 une nouvelle allusion au Psaumes 2 ; mais, à la colère des nations est opposée la colère de Dieu, qui trouve son expression vraie, nécessaire, réparatrice dans le jugement de ceux qui se sont endurcis malgré sa grâce, et dans la délivrance de son peuple.

Dieu donnera leur récompense à ses serviteurs les prophètes, qui forment dans l'Apocalypse une catégorie à part, et aux saints, c'est-à-dire à tous les fidèles.

Les derniers mots : et ceux qui craignent son nom désignent, suivant les uns, tous les membres de l'Église, sans distinction. Suivant d'autres, ils représentent une troisième catégorie : soit les prosélytes, tandis que les saints seraient les chrétiens d'origine juive ; soit les simples membres de l'Église, dont seraient distingués, sous le nom de saints, les ascètes et les martyrs. Et manque dans quelques documents qui portent : aux saints qui craignent son nom.

L'expression : ceux qui détruisent la terre s'applique aux habitants de Babylone et caractérise leur influence corruptrice. (Comparer Apocalypse 19.2)

      12 The sixth poured out his bowl on the great river, the Euphrates. Its water was dried up, that the way might be prepared for the kings that come from the sunrise.
