Tyr convertie, à la suite de son jugement, consacrera le fruit de son trafic à l'Eternel et à ses serviteurs (comparez 18.7). On pourrait trouver un accomplissement partiel de cette prophétie dans le fait rapporté Esdras 3.7, où nous voyons les Tyriens et les Sidoniens contribuer à la construction du nouveau temple, en amenant gratuitement du Liban à Jaffa les bois nécessaires. Tyr avait jadis déjà coopéré à la construction du temple de Salomon ; elle restait ainsi fidèle à son rôle. On pourrait aussi penser à la fondation de l'Eglise chrétienne à Tyr (Actes 21.3 et suivants). Mais l'accomplissement absolu de la prophétie du relèvement ne peut avoir lieu qu'après que le jugement lui-même est arrivé à son terme. De même que les Egyptiens et les Assyriens sont présentés au chapitre 19 comme les types de tout le monde païen, au point de vue de sa puissance et de sa civilisation en général, de même Tyr convertie représente l'activité commerciale sanctifiée et s'employant à l'avancement du règne de Jéhova sur la terre. C'est ce qui arrivera à la fin des temps soit pour Tyr elle-même, soit pour cette branche du travail humain dont elle était l'incarnation au temps d'Esaïe. Le prophète n'indique que le point de départ des châtiments et des relèvements qui se succèdent dans l'histoire, et le terme auquel les uns et les autres doivent aboutir. La prophétie n'est pas l'histoire ; mais son accomplissement, pour être réparti en une série de phases confondues dans l'intuition prophétique, n'en est pas moins réel.
