1 à 7 Esaïe veut contraindre les hommes de Juda à prononcer leur propre jugement. Nathan se sert aussi d'une parabole pour forcer David à se condamner lui-même (2Samuel 12). Jésus raconte aux pharisiens la parabole des vignerons dans un but tout pareil (Matthieu 21.33-41).

Pour mon ami. C'est à la fois au sujet de son ami et en son nom, que le prophète va chanter. Son chant s'adresse à Israël et a pour but de justifier son divin ami à la face du peuple. Pour le faire, il n'aura qu'à rapporter le cantique que cet ami a composé pour se plaindre de sa vigne et pour annoncer le châtiment qu'il lui réserve. Ce cantique ne commence proprement qu'au verset 3. Dans les versets 1 et 2, c'est Esaïe qui parle et qui prélude au chant de son ami en expliquant quelles ont été jusqu'ici les relations entre celui-ci et sa vigne.

Christ est le bien-aimé Fils de Dieu, et notre merveilleux Sauveur ! Le soin que l'Éternel a prodigué envers l'assemblée d'Israël, est décrit par l'image d'une vigne.

Tôt ou tard, les avantages que le ciel nous a accordés ici-bas, seront « comptabilisés » par le Seigneur.

L'Éternel planta une « vigne » de la meilleure qualité qui soit ; Il donna aux enfants d'Israël Sa loi, excellente, et a institué Ses ordonnances, appropriées à leur situation. Le temple était une « tour », où Dieu manifesta Sa présence. Il établit Son autel, où les sacrifices devaient être offerts ; en fait, tous les moyens nécessaires aux actions de grâce envers Dieu, sont ici décrits. Dieu attend le « fruit », la louange, de ceux qui bénéficient de Ses privilèges. De bons départs, vers des buts nobles sont louables, mais ce n'est pas suffisant ; il doit y avoir en plus du « fruit de la vigne », la communion avec le Seigneur ; nos pensées et nos affections, comme nos paroles et nos actions, doivent être « de bonne odeur », pour le Saint-Esprit.

Dieu ôta le fruit gâté. Les raisins sauvages sont les fruits de la nature corrompue. Là où la Grâce n'agit pas, la corruption se manifeste. La méchanceté de ceux qui se disent pieux, et qui ne jouissent pas des bénéfices de la grâce, finit par retomber sur eux-mêmes, véritables pécheurs. De telles personnes n'appartiendront plus au peuple élu, aux enfants de Dieu. Quand les erreurs et le vice ne sont plus contrôlés, la « vigne » ne vaut alors plus rien ; elle sera bientôt entourée d'épines. Cette situation se rencontre souvent, quand l'Esprit de Dieu s'éloigne de ceux qui se sont longtemps écartés de Lui, et qui ne se sont pas conformés à l'évangile. Ce texte est clair, il nous donne toute explication à ce sujet !

Il est regrettable de voir une âme, qui, au lieu d'être constituée de « raisins » d'humilité, d'amour, de patience, et de mépris du monde, qualités auxquelles Dieu est sensible, se trouve en fait n'être que des « raisins sauvages », de fierté, de passion, de mécontentement, et de méchanceté, au mépris de Dieu ; on devrait trouver en chaque individu la « vigne » de la prière et de la louange du Seigneur, au lieu de celle qui reste sauvage, celle des mauvaises paroles et des jurons.

Sachons produire patiemment du fruit, afin qu'au terme de notre séjour ici-bas, nous puissions jouir de la vie éternelle !
