Le prophète retourne contre eux leur propre dicton : La viande conservée dans le pot (dans la ville), ce seront, non pas leurs personnes, mais les corps de ceux qu'ils ont égorgés dans ses rues et dont le sang crie vengeance devant Dieu. Quant à eux, au lieu de continuer à habiter la ville, ils iront en exil. Ainsi les seuls à l'égard desquels se vérifiera leur parole et qui resteront propriétaires de cette terre souillée, ce sont ces innocents qu'ils ont fait descendre au tombeau.
