Thimna appartenait à la tribu des Horiens, d'après le verset 22.

Le nom d'Amalek ne paraît pas devoir désigner ici la totalité de la grande tribu des Amalékites, qui semble avoir existé déjà avant Esaü (Nombres 24.20 ; 1Samuel 27.8), mais une branche spéciale qui s'était alliée aux Edomites.
