Jacques 3.17

La sagesse d'en haut est tout d'abord pure, ensuite porteuse de paix, douce, conciliante, pleine de compassion et de bons fruits, elle est sans parti pris et sans hypocrisie.
Au contraire, la sagesse qui vient d’en haut est en premier lieu *pure ; de plus, elle aime la paix, elle est modérée et conciliante, pleine de bonté ; elle produit beaucoup de bons fruits, elle est sans parti pris et sans hypocrisie.

La sagesse que l'Esprit de Dieu inspire à l'homme, et que l'apôtre oppose ici à celle de verset 15, est premièrement pure de toute souillure sensuelle, et surtout de toute arrière-pensée et de tout motif égoïste. (2Corinthiens 7.11 ; 1Jean 3.3)

Ensuite, elle est pacifique, parce qu'elle est dominée par l'amour, qui tend sans cesse à la paix ; elle est modérée, sachant céder aux autres, se désister de son droit ; (Philippiens 2.4 ; 3.2) elle est douce, (1Timothée 3.3) facile à persuader, se laissant toujours convaincre d'un tort ou d'une erreur, lorsque la vérité se montre à elle ; elle est pleine de miséricorde (Jacques 2.13) et de bons fruits, c'est-à-dire de bonnes œuvres ; (Matthieu 3.8,Galates 5.22) elle est sans duplicité (littéralement point critique), mot traduit de diverses manières, et pouvant signifier : exempte d'esprit de jugement ou encore n'ayant point de doute, (Jacques 1.6) ou encore étant impartiale, sans distinction de personnes ; (Jacques 2.4) enfin, elle n'est point dissimulée, ou proprement sans hypocrisie ; en d'autres termes, sincère en elle-même et dans toutes ses manifestations
