Le prophète commence par les petits enfants (versets 3 à 5).

Les chacals : comparez Esaïe 13.22 et Job 30.29, où l'animal ici désigné est joint à l'autruche comme un animal du désert.

L'autruche passe en Orient pour un animal dénaturé à l'égard de ses petits. Comparez Job 39.17-19. Elle dépose ses œufs dans le sable du désert sans les enfouir profondément et les abandonne par moments, de sorte qu'on trouve souvent de ces œufs brisés ou pourris.
