Ces redoutables paroles forment le pendant et le contraste du verset 34

JĂ©sus conserve Ă  dessein la mĂȘme tournure et quelques-uns des mĂȘmes termes. Mais il faut remarquer aussi les diffĂ©rences voulues : il ne dit pas maudits de mon PĂšre, ni : le feu Ă©ternel prĂ©parĂ© dĂšs la fondation du monde, ni : qui vous est prĂ©parĂ©.

Ces différences portent avec elles leur profond enseignement. Elles ne font pas remonter la cause de la condamnation des réprouvés jusqu'à Dieu, mais la montrent dans leur propre faute ; eux seuls en portent la responsabilité.

- Toutes les fois que la Bible nous peint les peines morales des réprouvés sous ces images d'un feu, d'une flamme, d'un ver, etc., il faut se garder de les matérialiser. C'est dans la conscience avec ses remords, dans l'ùme avec ses regrets, que se trouveront les chùtiments de la justice divine.
