Comparez 14.29. Au premier moment, il faut éviter un éclat (début du verset) ; dans la suite, la rancune (fin du verset). La maxime 10.12 attribuait à l'amour ce qui est ici considéré comme une gloire pour l'homme de sens.
Le sage n'est ni pointilleux, ni délicat, ni vindicatif, ni trop sensible. Si l'on ne passe beaucoup de choses, même à ses amis, on est en danger de ne vivre jamais en paix, et de n'avoir jamais d'amis. (Calmet).
