Nouvel aveu douloureux : Malgré cette souillure originelle, Dieu avait entrepris l'éducation de David et lui avait enseigné la sagesse. La faute commise en devient ainsi plus personnelle, plus volontaire et plus grave. La pensée n'est pas entièrement exprimée ; le psalmiste a hâte de s'écrier : Purifie-moi... (verset 9).
