La bonne terre n'est ici caractérisée que par les résultats, comme les autres espèces de terrain qui précèdent.

D'après Luc, Jésus l'aurait interprétée par un cœur honnête et bon, qui retient la parole et la rend fructueuse.

Matthieu indique les mêmes effets par ces trois degrés : entendre, comprendre, porter du fruit.

Ce dernier résultat montre assez que comprendre n'est pas une action purement intellectuelle, mais que, puisqu'il y a du fruit dans la vie morale, la parole a du pénétrer dans la conscience, où elle produit la repentance, et dans le cœur, où elle crée l'amour.

C'est ce qui est finement indiqué dans le texte original par une particule que nos versions ordinaires, même celle de Lausanne, ne traduisent pas du tout, mais que Rilliet n'a pas négligée. Celui qui entend et comprend comme il faut porte du fruit par une conséquence toute naturelle, en porte certainement.

Quant à l'abondance de ce fruit, elle est exprimée simplement par ces termes employés dans l'image (verset 8) et qui n'ont pas besoin d'explication : cent, soixante, trente. Et ainsi la fin de l'interprétation se confond, d'une manière gracieuse, avec la fin de la parabole même.
