verset 12 renferme la sérieuse conclusion de tous les avertissements qui précèdent ; le verset 13 y ajoute un encouragement tiré dé l'expérience des Corinthiens et de la fidélité de Dieu.

Une tentation (ou épreuve) humaine est celle qui nous vient des hommes ou de notre propre cœur, et que l'homme peut surmonter, qui n'est pas au-dessus de ses forces.

Quelques interprètes entendent ce mot en opposition à d'autres tentations qui nous assaillent par la puissance des ténèbres, et qui s'attaquent aux racines mêmes de notre foi. Ce contraste se retrouve Ephésiens 6.12. (Comparer le combat de l'apôtre, 2Corinthiens 12.7)

Cependant cette distinction, quoique réelle, ne saurait être absolue, puisqu'en toute tentation se trouve à la fois la puissance de la chair et l'action de l'ennemi des âmes.

En relevant ce caractère humain des tentations, Paul veut surtout en indiquer le degré, et apprendre aux Corinthiens que jusqu'ici les leurs n'avaient point été des plus dangereuses.

Puis, afin de les encourager au combat pour les jours plus mauvais qui allaient paraître, il élève leur pensée vers la source de la vraie force et de la vraie consolation : "Dieu fera, avec la tentation, l'issue," (Grec :) afin que vous demeuriez "plus que vainqueurs."
