15 à 17 Réponse de l'Eternel : Le temps n'est pas venu où s'accomplira la grande régénération que tu as espéré d'opérer. C'est maintenant encore la période des châtiments ; va, retourne à ton œuvre préparatoire, et achève-la en y associant ceux qui doivent après toi la continuer : Hazaël, le roi de Syrie, qui, comme un tourbillon, dévastera Israël ; Jéhu, le futur roi d'Israël, qui, semblable à un tremblement de terre, fera crouler la maison d'Achab ; Elisée, le prophète dont la parole de feu continuera l'œuvre de ton propre ministère.

Tu oindras. Une onction, au sens littéral du mot, n'a eu lieu que pour Jéhu. Ce mot signifie : Tu consacreras : Tu appelleras ces trois hommes à la tâche que je leur ai destinée. Comparez verset 19 ; 2Rois 8.13 ; 9.3-6. Leur mission sera donc une mission de jugement. Pour Hazaël et Jéhu cela s'est réalisé à la lettre ; on ne peut citer qu'un cas de ce genre pour Elisée, le châtiment infligé aux jeunes gens de Béthel (2Rois 2.23-24). Les deux premiers instruments ont si bien fait leur office que le troisième a été dispensé de rien ajouter au jugement de son peuple.

      13 Hazael said, "But what is your servant, who is but a dog, that he should do this great thing?" Elisha answered, "Yahweh has shown me that you will be king over Syria."
      14 Then he departed from Elisha, and came to his master, who said to him, "What did Elisha say to you?" He answered, "He told me that you would surely recover."
      15 It happened on the next day, that he took a thick cloth, dipped it in water, and spread it on his face, so that he died. Then Hazael reigned in his place.

      14 Don't listen to the words of the prophets who speak to you, saying, You shall not serve the king of Babylon; for they prophesy a lie to you.

      19 For thus says Yahweh of Armies concerning the pillars, and concerning the sea, and concerning the bases, and concerning the residue of the vessels that are left in this city,
      20 which Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon didn't take, when he carried away captive Jeconiah the son of Jehoiakim, king of Judah, from Jerusalem to Babylon, and all the nobles of Judah and Jerusalem;
      21 yes, thus says Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel, concerning the vessels that are left in the house of Yahweh, and in the house of the king of Judah, and at Jerusalem:
      22 They shall be carried to Babylon, and there shall they be, until the day that I visit them, says Yahweh; then will I bring them up, and restore them to this place.
