Deux termes qui forment ici un beau contraste avec deux expressions de Ephésiens 2.12 : ces "étrangers" sont devenus concitoyens des saints dans le royaume de Dieu ; et ceux qui étaient "sans Dieu" font maintenant partie de sa maison ou de sa famille. Tel est le vieux sens du mot domestiques. (Comparer Galates 6.10 ; 1Timothée 5.8)

L'Église est comparée à une ville, dont chaque pécheur converti est le citoyen. Elle est également comparée à une maison, où chaque pécheur converti est un membre d’une même famille ; il est à la fois serviteur et enfant de Dieu, au sein de Sa maison. L'église est aussi comparée à un édifice, dont le fondement repose sur la doctrine de Christ ; il a été d’abord édifié par les prophètes de l'Ancien Testament, puis par les apôtres du Nouveau.

Dieu demeure maintenant dans le cœur de tous les croyants ; ils deviennent ainsi le « temple » du Seigneur, par le biais de l'œuvre du Saint-Esprit béni.

Demandons-nous si notre espérance repose réellement sur Christ, sur la doctrine de Sa Parole ? Sommes-nous consacrés à Dieu, composons-nous vraiment Son « saint temple », à travers Christ ? Sommes-nous une « habitation de Dieu », par l'Esprit, sommes-nous spirituellement disposés à Le servir, portons-nous avec puissance les fruits de l'Esprit ? Prenons bien soin de ne pas chagriner ce Dernier, le Consolateur. Désirons Sa présence pleine de Grâce, et l’influence qu’Il exerce en notre cœur.

Cherchons à accomplir le devoir qu’Il nous dicte, à la gloire de Dieu !
