Si tu me dis... Comparez les paroles d'Ezéchias au peuple, prononcées avant l'arrivée de Rabsaké, 2Chroniques 32.7-8 : Ne craignez pas le roi des Assyriens.... car il y a beaucoup plus avec nous qu'avec lui. Le bras de la chair est avec lui ; mais l'Eternel, notre Dieu, est avec nous pour nous aider et pour conduire nos combats.

N'est-ce pas lui dont... ? Ezéchias ne doit pas plus compter sur son Dieu que sur l'Egypte ; car il a détruit ses autels. Allusion à la réforme opérée par Ezéchias au commencement de son règne, et qui avait fait disparaître les hauts-lieux, même ceux qui étaient consacrés au vrai Dieu, en sorte que le culte fût, selon la loi, célébré exclusivement à Jérusalem (2Rois 18.4). Il est remarquable que cette réforme ait fait sensation au point d'être connue des Assyriens. Comparez verset 10. Rabsaké voit dans la suppression des autels une diminution des honneurs rendus au dieu national, qui ne protège dès lors plus le roi du pays.
