Ces noms reparaissent pour la plupart dans la liste des hommes qui avaient pris des femmes étrangères (chapitre 10), mais, comme ce sont des noms très ordinaires, on ne peut pas sûrement conclure à leur identité.

Chefs : désignation générale qui ne tranche pas la question de savoir si c'étaient des sacrificateurs ou des laïques.

Hommes intelligents. Nous rendons ainsi le mot mevinim, qui désigne ordinairement des Lévites, en tant que capables d'instruire le peuple dans les choses de la religion (Néhémie 8.7,9), ou bien en tant qu'habiles musiciens (2Chroniques 34.12). Mais ici il n'y avait justement pas de Lévites, et nous devons songer à des sacrificateurs ou à des laïques qui par leur intelligence avaient acquis la confiance générale.
