9-12, Troisième motif du déluge

L'histoire de Noé

Nous retrouvons ici le mot tholedoth, qui est propre au document élohiste. Nous avons vu plus haut (2.4 ; 5.1) qu'il signifie : ce qui a été engendré, ce qui est provenu. Ici le morceau dont ce mot est le titre, comprend non seulement la généalogie des fils de Noé, mais aussi leur histoire tout entière. Ce passage paraît se relier au dernier morceau élohiste (chapitre 5).

Un homme juste, intègre. Les mots suivants, marchait avec Dieu, montrent où il puisait la force de mener une vie si différente de celle de ses contemporains.

La justice indique l'accomplissement consciencieux de tous ses devoirs envers Dieu et envers les hommes, et le mot intègre dit qu'il n'y avait pas de lacune volontaire dans cette justice ; mais n'oublions pas le mot trouva grâce (verset 8) qui montre qu'au jugement de Dieu il n'était pour autant pas sans tache. Comparez Luc 1.6

Marchait avec Dieu. Ce terme n'est appliqué dans l'Ecriture qu'à Noé et à Hénoc. Le mot avec montre qu'il y a mieux ici que la soumission ; il y a la communion, l'intimité.
